Onto Brisbane
Around 4:30, Barb offered homemade cheesecake, fresh strawberries, and cream. I laughed and asked if we shouldn't have dinner first. "Oh no," she said, "This is afternoon tea." wink wink. So I think I could get used to this afternoon tea business. Peter got home from work around 5:30, about the time my allergies had kicked into overtime. So I sat outside and read a book for half an hour, with Bernie lying against me and periodically knocking my arm so I'd remember to keep petting him.
It had been determined sometime in the afternoon that I didn't have the proper computer programs to do some things, but that Justyn did, so he had burned a CD with the stuff I needed, and Barb and I went to pick it up from his and Sonje's house after Peter went to bed. We stayed for an hour or so, chatting, and watching "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" with one eye. I really like Sonje. She is very outgoing and gets along well with everyone. They also have a really nice house that Barb said afterward is the result of much redoing. But I think it looks great now! We also sampled some white port and another dessert wine the couple had gotten in Perth a few weeks ago. Both were delicious.
So I'm headed to Brisbane this afternoon. Flight is at 2:55 PM (that would be nearly 11 PM Monday for you EST-ers). Quick two or three hours, I think. I looked at my travel details again and found that the flight from Brisbane to Auckland is only two hours(!) and that Auckland to LA is less than 12 hours, so that will be fast compared to the 16 hour LA to Melbourne flight I did last week. Piece of cake. Again, as usual when I change homebases, I'm not sure what my internet access will be like for the rest of the trip. I'm sharing an apartment with Lyn and Tom Richards, and Kakali, in Brisbane, and who knows how that will go, in all arenas - not just internet...
