End of Oz
Apologies for the dearth of posts but internet has been scarce. (Free internet, that is.) I'm at Day 2 of the QualIT conference, lunchtime. I presented my paper and served on the panel yesterday. Paper went well, despite technical difficulties (isn't that always the way?). Panel less well, but more on that later.
I've been having a good time in Brisbane. Writing up huge long travelogue entries to post the next time I get internet access through my own computer. The best day by far has been Wednesday, when Chris and I went to the Gold Coast, ate breakfast at Surfer's Paradise, and had a great time on Nobby Beach. Then we drove inland. I've written pages about this, so i won't go into great detail. That night was the pre-conference reception, and Kakali, Chris, and I got very drunk. Yes, boys and girls, I've now been really and truly blasted for the first time in my life. I paid for it though. After I put Chris and Kakali to bed, I slept for a few hours, then woke up at 2:15 and felt sick, headachy, and didn't manage to get to sleep again. Worse, I started losing my voice and by end of day yesterday it was gone completely. It stayed gone this morning as well, but is starting to come back now.
Last night, we had dinner in Brisbane with the conference folk, but even though it was an open bar, the thought of red wine just makes me feel ill, and even Chris was alternating wine with water.
Chris and I went into Brisbane this morning and walked South Bank, but will stick out the end of the conference since Kakali is chairing four papers this afternoon including Dan's and her own (separate papers).
Arrangements for going to the airport tomorrow are being made currently. I feel badly for Chris whose flight isn't until 2 PM, but who has to be out of the hotel by 10. So no matter what she does, she spends hours at the airport. I can't believe we all go separate ways tomorrow. And I go to New Zealand.
Happy Thanksgiving! Apparently there are bush turkeys around here, everyone keeps telling me, but I have yet to see any.
